EA Sports FC 26: First Impressions and What’s Coming

Every September, EA drops a new Fifa style football game and we all collectively say: “This is the same game as last year.” And then we buy it anyway. Guilty. 🙋♂️
But honestly, EA Sports FC 26 might actually be worth the hype this time. After looking at what’s coming, it feels like EA is finally doing more than just new menus and updated kits.
Release Date
FC 26 officially launches on September 26, 2025, with early access (if you grab the Ultimate Edition) starting a week earlier on September 19 on all platforms.
Gameplay: Competitive vs. Authentic
Here’s the big change this year: EA is splitting gameplay into two styles.
Competitive Mode → fast, responsive, tuned for Ultimate Team and Clubs. Basically the “sweaty” setting.
Authentic Mode → slower, more realistic, built for Career Mode. Better positioning, more natural corners, and those messy box scrambles actually look real now.
On top of that, dribbling, animations, goalkeepers, and overall responsiveness are getting upgrades. After the somewhat clunky game play of FC 25, that’s a huge win.
New Features
A few things that stood out to me:
A new Archetypes system to make players feel more unique.
Manager Live Challenges that keep Career Mode from getting stale.
A revamped Be-A-Goalkeeper Rush mode (for the brave souls who actually play GK, not me).
More tactical depth and club options if you’re the type who loves tweaking every detail.
The Covers
Ultimate Edition: Zlatan (because of course it’s Zlatan).
Standard Edition: Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala.
Looking Back at FC 25
Last year’s FC 25 was… surprisingly pretty good. It added Rush mode, women’s leagues, and some tactical stuff, but it didn’t blow people away. Sales underperformed, which explains why EA seems to be going harder with gameplay changes this time around.
My Take
I’ll be honest—I usually expect EA to throw in one flashy new mode, update the kits, and call it a day. But FC 26 looks like they’ve actually listened to feedback. The career mode is the thing I'm most
Will it be a masterpiece? Who knows. But at least this year it feels like EA is actually trying.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to try and turn Fulham to a 5 star team within 2 years in my FC25 career mode 🎮⚽
Cheers,
